Family Compass
Someone who knows the road ahead.
A dementia diagnosis doesn't come with a map. Family Compass is Tempus's navigation service — a dedicated guide who helps families understand what's happening, what options exist, and what to do next. You don't have to figure this out alone.
What is Family Compass?
Family Compass is not a hotline. It's not a referral service that hands you a list of phone numbers. It's a relationship with a trained navigator who knows the dementia care landscape in Northeast Georgia who will walk alongside your family as your situation evolves.
Your navigator will help you understand the diagnosis and the specific progression roadmap for your specific dementia type, develop an individualized care plan for both the diagnosed and the care partner/family, identify what services and resources apply to your specific situation, connect you to programs within the Tempus Collective, and help you navigate the systems: medical, legal, financial, governmental, that families inevitably encounter.
Family Compass support is always free. We believe no family should be turned away from guidance because of cost.
What your navigator can help with
Understanding the diagnosis
What the diagnosis means, what to expect as the disease progresses, and how to talk about it with the person living with the condition and with other family members.
Identifying your options
What care options exist — in-home support, adult day programs, memory care communities, respite care — and which ones are realistic given your situation, geography, and resources.
Benefits and financial resources
Medicaid waiver programs, Veterans benefits, long-term care insurance, Area Agency on Aging programs, and other funding sources that may apply to your family.
Legal and advance planning
Power of attorney, healthcare directives, guardianship, and the legal steps families need to take — and when to take them — to protect the person they love.
Caregiver support
Connecting family caregivers to support groups, respite resources, and the Tempus caregiver community — because the person giving care needs care too.
Connection to the Collective
Warm referrals to The Club, The Institute's education programming, employer resources, and other Tempus services that may benefit your family.
A word about care partners
Most people who contact Family Compass are not the person with the diagnosis. They are the spouse, the adult child, the sibling — the person who has quietly taken on the work of caring while managing their own life, their own health, and their own grief.
Caregiver burnout is not a personal failure. It is a predictable outcome of an impossible situation without adequate support. Family Compass exists, in part, to change that — to make sure the people giving care have somewhere to turn before they reach the breaking point.
If you are a care partner, you are not a secondary concern. You are exactly who we built this for.
Care partner support groups
Tempus facilitates peer support groups for care partners — structured conversations with others who understand what you're carrying. Groups are free to attend and open to any care partner, regardless of whether your loved one is a Tempus member.
Support groups are forming now as part of our founding-stage development. If you are interested in participating — or in helping facilitate — let us know when you reach out.
