The Institute at Tempus

Knowledge changes everything.

The Institute is Tempus's education and research arm — building dementia literacy across families, workplaces, healthcare systems, and communities. Because the more people understand about cognitive decline, the better every person living with it is cared for.

Why education is part of the model

Most families encounter dementia without any preparation. They don't know what to expect, what questions to ask, or what resources exist. That gap — between diagnosis and understanding — is where fear lives. The Institute exists to close it.

But education isn't only for families. Healthcare workers, employers, first responders, faith communities, and neighbors all interact with people living with cognitive decline. When those interactions are informed by knowledge, they go better. When they aren't, they cause harm.

The Institute trains, teaches, and researches — so that the entire ecosystem around a person with dementia becomes more capable of supporting them.

What the Institute does

Community education

Free and low-cost educational programming for families, caregivers, and community members — workshops, seminars, and online resources covering diagnosis, caregiving, legal planning, and more.

Workforce training

Dementia-informed care training for healthcare workers, home care aides, first responders, and other professionals who interact with people living with cognitive decline.

Employer programming

Education and support resources for employers whose workforce includes family caregivers — helping organizations understand the caregiving crisis and respond with meaningful policy.

Applied research

Partnerships with academic institutions and healthcare systems to study what works in dementia care — and to bring evidence-based practices into the Tempus model.

Faith community engagement

Equipping churches, synagogues, mosques, and other faith communities to be dementia-friendly — so that people living with cognitive decline remain connected to their spiritual communities.

Professional development

Continuing education credits and certification pathways for healthcare and social service professionals seeking to deepen their dementia care competency.

Education for families and communities

The Institute's community education programming is built around one principle: no family should face dementia without information. Our workshops and seminars are designed to be accessible — plain language, practical focus, no medical jargon.

Topics include: understanding the diagnosis and what to expect; how to communicate with someone living with dementia; legal and financial planning; navigating care options; and how to sustain yourself as a caregiver.

Programming is offered in-person. Most programming is free or low-cost. We are actively building our calendar — add your name to our education interest list to be notified when new programming is available.

Training for the people who provide care

The quality of dementia care depends on the knowledge and skill of the people delivering it. The Institute offers training for home care aides, nursing home staff, hospital workers, first responders, and others who interact with people living with cognitive decline.

Our training programs are grounded in evidence-based practice and designed for real-world application. We work with organizations to deliver training that fits their context — whether that's a single workshop or an ongoing professional development program.
